Duran, Duran (2023)
Cement, plaster, timber, steel, aluminium, newspaper [130 x 30 x 30cm]

For my first garden sculpture commission I created, Duran, Duran. It was a great process of learning construction for outdoor work. By using layers consisting of chicken wire, plaster and finally cement I managed to make a work that was both light and easy to move whilst also being structurally sound.

So I've been told it has lasted the test of highwinds, chaotic storms and the occasional visit of a London fox.

The inside is hollow, filled with a fence post and expanding foam - a great way to ensure accurate burial into the ground combined with enough weight to not blow over at the slightest touch.

Sculpture in the public realm however, is a dream of mine. Hopefully, sometime soon you might happen upon a piece of work of mine in a local park, pedestrianised shopping street or like Hepworth, hoisted aloft a mega shopping store.
