Tyred (2020)
Plaster, Hessian, Dye, Acrylic, timber, steel, aluminium [180 x 90 x 90cm] & [100 x 50 x 50cm] & [80 x 35 x 30cm]

My first ever arts week at Oxford was so exciting, the ability to use any space in the college I wanted, the opportunity to apply for a budget I could have only dreamt of was incredible. I thought that I would make a statement so I applied to use the main quod (Tom) to host three yonic looking sculptures.

Initially this was commentary on the history of patriarchy within the college. However, as proceedings with the now-disgraced dean were unfolding my work was able to play a humorous role in mocking him.

Tyred was initially literally inspired by tractor tyres but due to technical limitations I was destined to create these forms freely with chicken wire, timber, plaster and hessian. This work however, left me wanting more and I aim to continue this series, to a better effect going forward.
